If you are eyeing the CFA, August brought a bit of relief. The CFA Institute said 43% of Level I candidates passed in August, edging past the 10-year average of 40%. That tops May's 39% but falls short of February's 45%. It also moves further away from the atypically weak results posted in 2021, when Covid-19 disruptions weighed on performance.
Postponing tends to hurt. Among August Level I test-takers, those with at least one deferral passed at 29%, compared with a 49% pass rate for first-time candidates. As the institute put it, "The results continue to highlight the benefits of staying on schedule in exam preparation and following a consistent study plan."
The CFA charter is widely seen in finance as a career-builder that can open doors to new roles and higher pay. It is a three-level exam offered several times a year. In August, more than 28,000 people sat for Level I across 519 proctored, computer-based testing centers worldwide. For those who tested at higher levels in August, Level II results are slated for Sept. 30 and Level III results are due Oct. 20.
