Military missions are also more wired than ever, raising the stakes. Against that backdrop, Airbus said Wednesday its Airbus Cybersecurity SAS unit will supply advanced gateways for the defense ministry's networks to tighten control over data flows across sensitive systems.
Airbus describes these gateways as a core layer in the ministry's cyber setup, enabling secure, filtered data exchange between networks and information systems that carry different classifications or sensitivities. The aim is to let the right information move where it needs to go while keeping it shielded from prying eyes.
The kit will be installed at ministry sites and in locations tied to military operations. It will come in multiple variants: versions built to plug into data centers and a self-contained unit sized for a command post. The design also fits more constrained or restricted tactical settings, including use on surface ships, submarines, aircraft, drones, and in armored and other land vehicles.
This summer, France's tax administration suffered a cyberattack that exposed personal data belonging to hundreds of thousands of taxpayers, including their taxable incomes. The new contract fits the broader push to close those gaps. As Airbus Defence and Space's François Lombard put it, "This gateway strengthens the digital shield the French Armed Forces rely on to execute their missions." Airbus did not share any financial details for the deal.
