AI-powered America.gov chatbot launches to help people navigate government websites

Getting lost on government websites might finally get less frustrating. The administration rolled out America.gov, a chatbot designed to steer people through official sites. Joe Gebbia, the U.S. Chief Design Officer, told CNBC's Squawk Box the system uses AI from Google's Gemini and Elon Musk's Grok. CNBC requested comment from xAI - the developer of Grok that was acquired by SpaceX and rebranded as SpaceXAI - but no immediate response was provided.

Timing and rollout

The site went live around 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday. The rollout takes place during a full-day gathering at Washington's Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, with President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, other administration officials, and industry leaders in attendance. According to the White House, speaking to CNBC, the agenda features panels covering AI as well as areas like energy, health, space, and agriculture.

"It's not just simply a website. It's a restoration of America's founding promise, and it's a reinvention of your government for the 21st century and beyond," Trump remarked during his address at the event. "Every day, 40 million people interact with a government website trying to get something done. And I think we could all agree that we wish it was better," Gebbia told CNBC.
