What changed
Home REIT said the Financial Conduct Authority has wrapped up its inquiry into the company with no further steps to be taken. Chairman Michael O'Donnell said, "Following our extensive cooperation with the FCA's investigation, we are pleased to announce that it has closed its investigation and intends to take no further action against the company."
As of publication, the regulator had not provided a comment.
How we got here
The FCA opened the probe in 2024 and focused on the period from late 2020 into early 2023. The company, which leases homes to charities and housing providers, had its shares suspended after it failed to publish earnings in the wake of short-seller Viceroy Research's claims.
Published in November 2022, Viceroy's report raised concerns about the condition of Home REIT's receivables, evaluated the breadth and caliber of its largest tenants, and scrutinized the company's outsourced management structure.

Why it matters for investors
With the FCA closing its file without action, one regulatory question mark is off the table. The bigger context remains the same: a November 2022 short report, a trading suspension tied to missing earnings, and a regulator's review covering Sept. 22, 2020 through Jan. 3, 2023. That timeline frames the recent risk history investors are weighing in this name.
