The deal and the math
A Monday statement said Geely would acquire 30% of Nio Power for 640 million yuan. The consideration consists of two parts: Geely will hand over 100% equity in one of its battery-swapping subsidiaries and add 640 million yuan in cash. On those terms, the transaction pegs Nio Power's value at 16 billion yuan.
How the swap works and why it is costly
Battery swapping is Nio's calling card: instead of plugging in and waiting, drivers roll in and exchange a depleted pack for a replenished pack within minutes. The tradeoff is the price tag. Building and running stations requires significant capital and ongoing operating spend, which is why Nio keeps looking for partners and avenues to commercialize the service.
Who else is backing the buildout
Last year, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. put 2.5 billion yuan into Nio Power in a collaboration aimed at growing a nationwide swapping network. Add Geely's equity contribution and cash, and you have multiple heavyweight backers shouldering the costs of scaling a time-saving refueling option across China.

What this means for your portfolio
If you track EV infrastructure, this deal puts fresh money and assets behind a capital-hungry idea and sets a clear 16 billion yuan benchmark for Nio Power. The figures to remember: a 30% stake, 640 million yuan in cash plus a full Geely subsidiary, and CATL's earlier 2.5 billion yuan. Together they show where serious capital is gathering inside China's EV ecosystem and how fast-swapping could shape the everyday ownership experience.
