According to people familiar with the talks, Greenbriar Equity Group LP is in advanced negotiations to acquire Spectrum Control at a price exceeding $1.8 billion. Those people, who requested anonymity because the discussions are private, said Greenbriar emerged ahead of industrial suitors to buy the business from AEA Investors.
A formal reveal could arrive this week, barring any last minute hiccups, the people said. They also cautioned that the process is not locked: a fresh bidder could still show up, or AEA could decide to retain Spectrum Control. Spokespeople for Greenbriar and AEA would not provide comment, while Spectrum Control did not respond to a request for comment.
If it closes, this would be an unusual bright spot for private equity in aerospace and defense this year, a corner of the market where larger strategics have been doing most of the buying or companies have been opting to list. Case in point: this month GE Aerospace said it would buy Consolidated Precision Products for roughly $12 billion. And in 2026, Arcline-backed Arxis Inc. and J.F. Lehman-backed Doncasters both went public, with each raising more than $1 billion.
