What's new and why it matters
Cognition AI is tracking toward a $1 billion annualized revenue rate based on how this month is shaping up, according to someone with knowledge of the figures who requested anonymity because the numbers are not public. The company declined to comment on the latest performance. Run rate is essentially a full-year sales estimate extrapolated from a shorter window, so the pace can move fast when momentum builds.
The growth curve
In September, Cognition said its revenue run rate had surpassed $900 million, crediting the surge to appetite for Devin, its AI tool that writes and debugs code. Back in May, the company was pacing at $492 million on an annualized basis, so the current trajectory roughly doubles the rate from about four months earlier.
Funding, customers and the M&A drumbeat
Its client roster features Nvidia Corp., Citigroup Inc. and Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Interest around the company intensified after news that Elon Musk's SpaceX said it could buy rival Cursor for $60 billion, according to Bloomberg. The transaction was completed in August. SpaceX had earlier reached out to Cognition regarding a potential takeover.
