A seasoned trader tapped for a crucial seat
People with knowledge of the talks say Daniel Lim is expected to join Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia once terms are finalized. Lim declined to comment, and the people asked not to be named because the move is not yet public. Lim's LinkedIn lists him as managing director at Tropical Oil ACI from 2014, and notes that his latest role was a trading position at Golden Agri-Resources.
Why this role matters now
Formed earlier this year as part of Danantara, DSI is building out leadership as it targets a central role in commodity flows. It aims to oversee exports of major products such as palm oil and coal while scrutinizing transactions to limit under-invoicing and transfer pricing, practices that, according to Jakarta, could cost the state billions. Luke Mahony is at the helm of the agency, and he earlier served as an executive at nickel producer PT Vale Indonesia. DSI representatives did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

Leadership build-out already under way
In August, DSI appointed Sinthya Roesly, formerly the Chief Financial Officer of Perusahaan Listrik Negara, to the role of finance director, and also installed PT Freeport Indonesia CEO Tony Wenas and National Economic Council Deputy Chair Mari Elka Pangestu as commissioners. The team reflects an effort to mix trading expertise with heavyweight oversight as Indonesia looks to channel more value from its export staples.
