What Tesla is bringing
Tesla's Cybercab is set to be on the stand when the Paris show opens on Oct. 12, marking the vehicle's first public showing in Europe. The prototype has no steering wheel or pedals, and while it will be on view, visitors won't be able to ride in it. Serge Gachot, the show's director, said attendees can take six other Tesla vehicles out for test drives, each equipped with the company's driver-assist package it markets as Full Self-Driving.
Why the Cybercab matters to Tesla
Tesla is positioning the Cybercab as a cornerstone of its shift from pure EV manufacturing to a broader push in artificial intelligence, which also includes humanoid robots. Elon Musk has described the robotaxi as the future backbone of a widespread service he aims to operate across most of the US, and he has vowed to eventually put thousands of these cars on the road.
Autonomous vehicles face very different rules in every market they enter. Market Briefs covers that rollout free every weekday.
Who else will show up
Stellantis NV plans to roll in with more than 60 vehicles across eight brands, part of a comeback drive led by Chief Executive Officer Antonio Filosa. Renault SA is expected with around 50 vehicles and concepts, including the revamped electric Dacia Spring that will be assembled in Europe to tap incentives favoring local production. China's BYD Co. and Xpeng Inc., as well as Germany's Volkswagen AG, are also on the roster. In contrast, BMW AG announced earlier this year that it would sit out this edition, with new CEO Milan Nedeljkovic cutting expenses following a major profit warning.
What this means for your portfolio
Auto shows are part tech expo, part sales floor. Paris will test whether the spotlight lands on big-vision bets like robotaxis or on the sheer scale and model breadth of legacy brands. Keep an eye on where the buzz, test drives and headlines concentrate, because that often shapes where policy attention and near term demand show up next.
European regulation will shape how fast robotaxis actually scale. Join Market Briefs free and follow the expansion.
