Taco Bell and Duolingo take Taco Day worldwide with a spicy new collab

Published Oct 1, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • On October 6, Taco Bell and Duolingo will elevate National Taco Day to a worldwide moment, noting that the word looks almost identical in more than 30 languages.
  • Duo Habanero Sauce launches October 6 in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain and the UK, with a free packet in the U.S. when you buy a Doritos Locos Taco and extra packets for $0.20.
  • Perks run October 1 to October 6 for Taco Bell Rewards Members to get a free month of Super Duolingo, plus pop-up activations from New York to Mumbai, Toronto and Shanghai.

What's happening and why now

Taco Bell and Duolingo are making October 6 a worldwide taco party, officially calling it Global Taco Day for the first time. The hook is simple: in more than 30 languages, the word barely changes. Spanish?

Taco. French? Taco.

German? Taco. Japanese?

タコス (Takosu). Hindi? टैको (Taiko).

"The fact that 'taco' is understood in more than 30 languages proves just how universal it is, and together with Duolingo, we're turning that shared language into an invitation for even more fans to join the Global Taco Day celebration."

"Language and food are two of the most powerful ways we connect with culture and with each other," said Emmanuel Orssaud, Chief Marketing Officer, Duolingo. "Taco is a rare word that travels easily across cultures, making it a fun starting point for getting people curious about language."

Meet the sauce and where to find it

The headliner is Duo Habanero Sauce, created exclusively for this collab. It brings a bright, tangy profile with fruity habanero heat that builds. The limited-edition packets double as bite-sized language lessons, featuring taco-inspired sayings in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese. In each participating country, the mix of packets will mirror the primary local tongue and also include several of the top languages Duolingo learners study in that market.

Starting October 6, you'll find them at select Taco Bell locations in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain and the UK, available only until they run out. In the U.S., purchase a Doritos Locos Taco to receive one Duo Habanero Sauce packet at no charge, and you can purchase extra packets individually for $0.20 apiece. Outside the U.S., fans can snag free Duo Habanero Sauce via country-specific Global Taco Day promos that differ by market, available while supplies last. Limit 1 packet per qualifying item.

The money story behind the headlines is usually the part that matters. Join Market Briefs free and get it every morning.

"We've always believed tacos are for everyone," said Amy Ellis Durini, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Taco Bell International.

IRL takeovers, lessons and limited-edition plush

There is more than just sauce on deck. Expect taco-fueled language lessons and surprise appearances, including a one-day takeover in New York City. On October 6 from 3:00 pm ET to 4:30 pm ET, Duo and friends will pop up at Taco Bell Midtown Cantina (976 6th Ave, New York, NY 10018, United States) to serve tacos with Duo Habanero, run language challenges, and pass out swag and prizes until supplies are gone.

Duo will also show up in other cities on October 6:

  • Mumbai, India: in-store activation at Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Kurla West Mumbai, Maharashtra 400070, India
  • Toronto, Canada: Taco Bell takeover at 252 Church Street, Toronto, ON M5B 0E6, Canada
  • Shanghai, China: Duo Habanero-fueled activation at 55 Century Avenue, Lujiazui, Shanghai 200120, China

Collectors, take note: Across participating markets, there will be 1,000 Taco Bell x Duo plushies, each sporting a custom Taco Bell uniform and a mini headset. In the U.S., Tuesday Drops opens for Taco Bell Rewards Members at 2 pm PT on October 6, 2026, giving them a shot at snagging one before they're gone. Fans in the UK, Canada, Spain, China, Australia and India will have chances via local activations to snag the plush as well.

Perks, timelines and brand background

From October 1 through October 6, Super Duolingo is free for one month to Taco Bell Rewards Members. Redeem codes by November 15; once activated, they stay valid for 30 days.

This push builds on Taco Bell's pattern of amplifying National Taco Day: in 2022, it launched the Taco Lover's Pass to stretch the party to 30 days; in 2023, it helped open up "Taco Tuesday" nationwide; in 2024, working with National Day Calendar, it shifted National Taco Day so it falls on the first Tuesday in October; and in 2025, it marked the first anniversary of that change with special deals.

For context, Taco Bell has served fans since 1962 and now reaches millions weekly through almost 10,000 restaurants spanning over 40 markets. It has been recognized by Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies and TIME's Most Influential Companies.

Why it matters for your money

This is a feel-good promo with useful sweeteners: a new limited sauce, a free packet with a Doritos Locos Taco in the U.S., global pop-ups, and a no-cost month of Super Duolingo if you're a Rewards Member and redeem in time. If you were already planning a taco run, these extras add value without adding to your tab. If you're eyeing the plush, supply is tight at 1,000 total, so expect competition and be cautious about resale markups.

Common Investing Mistakes: Why a Stock Grade Is One Tool, Not the Whole Toolkit
  • The Briefs Score shows growth, income, and wealth preservation investors how well a stock fits their goal, with a separate letter grade for each one.
  • The most common mistake is treating the letter as an instruction. An A tells you a stock scores well for one goal, not that you should buy today.
  • Research works best as one input in a process you own. The grade shows how a stock stacks up. You supply the goal, the timeline, and the rules for being wrong.

How to Tell an Asset From a Liability: The One Question to Ask Before You Buy Anything
  • The typical American household earned more in 2025 than in any year on record, yet only 30% of Americans say they could pay a surprise $1,000 bill from savings, so the problem isn't income but what the income gets spent on.
  • An asset puts money in your pocket and a liability takes money out, and the wealthy buy assets first, then let the assets pay for the fun stuff.
  • Before you buy anything, ask one question: does this put money in my pocket, or take money out of my pocket? Then you need a plan for the money you keep.

  • More than a third of American adults couldn't cover a $400 surprise bill with cash or savings, according to the Federal Reserve, and that's how one bad day turns into years of credit card payments.
  • Once the $2,000 is there, attack every debt charging more than 10% interest, highest rate first, because you can't out-invest a 22% credit card so paying it off is the investment.
