What Musk just laid out
Musk is racing to scale up AI compute and, in a post on X, he offered his clearest timing so far for the Colossus 2 expansion. He indicated the cluster could push its Nvidia chip totals to more than twice the present figure before year end, detailing near-term adds and a potential late-December boost.
What is installed and what is next
Colossus 2, built by xAI, currently has 110,000 Nvidia GB200 chips alongside 440,000 GB300 chips. Musk said another 220,000 GB300s are slated to be up next week, followed by 220,000 in November. A further 220,000 could go live in late December, but only "if we get lucky."

The bigger build and why it matters
A SpaceX unit had previously stated that, by 2026, its Memphis facility aims to be equipped with 1 million graphics processing units, a benchmark that frames the significance of this year's chip additions. If Musk's cadence holds, expect more attention on the plumbing behind AI growth, from power to networking to data center gear. For your wallet, the punchline is simple: timelines like this shape expectations for AI infrastructure demand, and that tide can lift or lower a wide swath of related companies you already know.
