What is being built in Hong Kong
Danantara plans to open an investment outpost in Hong Kong as it dials up allocations at home and overseas. Company filings indicate the fund set up holding and financing units in the city, among them Danantara Investment Holding Hong Kong, which was incorporated on March 23. Those aware of the blueprint say the fund is looking to hire investors in Hong Kong and has yet to secure an office. Representatives at the fund did not respond to requests for comment.
Who is steering the region and where capital could go
Per her LinkedIn profile, Sisi Liu, who is based in Hong Kong, heads the fund's investing across Greater China and North Asia, with a focus that spans artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced manufacturing. That gives a hint at where new checks might get written if the Hong Kong hub ramps up.
How this fits into a broader investing push
Set up in 2025, Danantara is Indonesia's second sovereign wealth fund, overseeing hundreds of state enterprises and controlling assets that officials peg at about $900 billion. In August, Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said the fund intended to make its first commitments to hedge fund managers before the end of the year, describing the move as a diversification effort. Around the same time, people familiar said Danantara handed a $1 billion private credit mandate to Partners Group, the Swiss asset manager. Separately, it agreed to allocate $2.5 billion to a joint venture that contains JBS NV's meat processing business across Australia and New Zealand.
