The deal and who is writing the checks
Samsung is leaning further into the plumbing of AI. The group said Tuesday that Samsung Electronics Co., Samsung C&T Corp., Samsung SDS Co., Samsung SDI Co., Samsung Life Insurance Co., and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co. have agreed to invest a total of $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure. It is a move that extends the conglomerate's bet on the fast‑expanding market for AI infrastructure.
What Helix is building
KKR established Helix in June together with the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia Corp., and Vistra Corp., a US power producer, launching with upward of $10 billion in long‑term commitments. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, having previously been the CEO of Amazon Web Services. Nvidia joins as a strategic partner, while Helix has designated Vistra as its preferred power partner. Instead of operating like a typical data‑center developer, Helix aims to assemble all the pieces required to bring massive compute capacity online fast.

Why this matters for your portfolio
If this proceeds, the investment would hand Korea's largest industrial group an ownership stake in a company spanning multiple fields where Samsung already operates: finance, cloud computing, data centers, construction, and semiconductors. In short, Samsung is buying into the backbone that runs AI, and Helix's model is aimed at shrinking the time it takes to bring huge compute online. That kind of behind‑the‑scenes buildout can influence where the next wave of growth shows up for everyday investors.
