Why the hire matters
Pinterest aims to recast its image as a creativity-first option among social platforms, and it's appointing a new finance leader to support that plan. Bill Ready said Dibbo's experience "leading complex global businesses and building high-performing teams" is a fit "as we continue to make Pinterest more actionable for our users and more valuable for advertisers." The company describes itself as a search-and-discovery company, so hiring a CFO steeped in advertising, entertainment and growth signals where it wants to push next.
A new finance chief usually arrives with a mandate to change something. Market Briefs covers tech leadership free every morning.
What Dibbo brings
At Amazon in his latest post, Dibbo held the title of VP and chief financial officer overseeing Global Entertainment as well as advertising and corporate development, managing finances for Amazon Ads, Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios, Music, Audible and Twitch. He spent about a decade in leadership roles across the company, is based in Los Angeles, and earlier in his career was CFO of P.F. Chang's.
What he said and what's next
Dibbo praised Pinterest's "distinctive role at the intersection of visual search, shopping and advertising" and called it "a compelling opportunity to help people turn inspiration into action while delivering meaningful value for advertisers." He starts Oct. 26 and will report to CEO Bill Ready. Julia Brau Donnelly, the current CFO, will leave on Oct. 30 to take a position in the private sector.
For your wallet, the takeaway is simple: a finance chief with deep ad and media chops points to Pinterest chasing more commerce and advertiser value, which is the kind of shift that can shape how the platform makes money over time.
