What's new and why it matters
To facilitate the launch of Trump Accounts, the IRS named Joseph Velli in a senior advisory capacity to Chief Executive Officer Frank Bisignano. In an email to senior IRS leaders, Bisignano said Velli's mandate is to focus on Trump Accounts and help administer the program. The message was shared first with CNBC, which also reviewed it.
Velli's track record
Bisignano praised Velli in the note, writing, "Joe is a seasoned CEO and senior executive with extensive experience in corporate governance, leadership and business operations," and adding, "In this role, he will focus on Trump Accounts." Velli's board service includes Paychex, Cognizant, and Computershare; he previously led Convergex Group as chairman and CEO, and he held the title of senior executive vice president with The Bank of New York.
Trump Accounts, in plain English
Think of Trump Accounts as long-term, tax-deferred investing for kids under 18 aimed at retirement and building wealth over time. Children with birth years between 2025 and 2028 qualify for a $1,000 one-time contribution funded by the U.S. Treasury Department. The initiative is among the administration's top economic priorities.

What this could mean for families
If you're a parent or planning to be, the headline is simple: the policy goal is to spark early compounding for kids with a starter boost to get it going. The fine print matters for eligibility and taxes, but the broader signal is a push toward saving earlier in life, which can reshape how households plan for the future.
