Apple is developing an enterprise server that runs on in-house silicon, according to The Information. The plan described by the outlet includes two configurations: one pairing two of Apple's upcoming M8 Ultra chips, and another packing four M8 Ultra chips.
According to the report, the intended customer base includes developers focused on AI, public-sector agencies, and a range of private-sector firms. The Information based its account on several unnamed sources.
Apple has talked with Nvidia about adopting its networking equipment for the project, the report said. Nvidia's NVLink Fusion would link the M8 chips inside the server.
The effort is not locked in. The Information noted Apple could push ahead without Nvidia's technology, and the entire project could still be shelved.
