Apple Plans Camera AirPods, A Foldable iPhone, And A 20th Anniversary iPhone For 2027

Summary:
  • Apple is planning three big products for late 2027: AirPods with built-in cameras, a second foldable iPhone, and a 20th anniversary iPhone, per a Bloomberg report.
  • The camera AirPods were first due in 2026 but slipped, partly because Apple's AI software is not ready.
  • The anniversary iPhone and the new foldable will both run on a new 2-nanometer chip called the A21.

Apple's camera AirPods were due this year. They are not coming.

The new plan is late 2027. The reason is simple: Apple's AI is not ready.

The AirPods That Got Held Back

Apple calls these AirPods B798 inside the company. They were first set for 2026.

These earbuds were once a 2026 product. The AI work pushed them back a full year.

Now the launch sits in late 2027. The hold-up is the AI software.

The delay makes sense once you see the goal.

The cameras will not take photos or video. They feed what is near you to Siri.

That lets Siri see your world and react. The lenses likely use infrared, much like the Face ID sensor.

It is a hard thing to pull off. Apple needs AI that can spot and name things in real time.

That AI is not ready yet. To help close the gap, Apple even put Google's Gemini inside Siri.

We turn moves like this into what they mean for your money in Market Briefs, five minutes each morning, and you get a free investing masterclass when you join.

Three Flagships In One Year

2027 looks like Apple's biggest year in a while. Three new products are due at once.

The star is a 20th anniversary iPhone. Its screen runs almost edge to edge.

The glass curves around the sides. It comes in two sizes.

They sit close to today's iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.

A second foldable iPhone is due too. It lands about a year after the first one.

Early hints in beta code point to that first folding phone this fall.

Both new phones use a fresh chip called the A21. It is built on a tiny 2-nanometer design.

A smaller chip means more speed. It also means longer battery life.

That matters because AI features drain a lot of power.

Stacking three big launches into one year is a bold bet. A lot rides on the timing.

Why It Matters For Apple

For Apple, 2027 is also a reset on its AI story. The company has taken heat for falling behind.

A strong year could win back some of that ground. New gadgets give Siri more ways to be useful.

Those sales also feed Apple's services push down the line.

Investors will watch one thing above all: how well the new Siri actually works. The hardware is the easy part for Apple, and the AI is the real test.

What's Coming Sooner

Apple has closer launches first. The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are due later in 2026.

The basic iPhone 18 follows in early 2027. It runs Apple's A20 chip, while the Pro models get a faster A20 Pro.

By 2028, the top phones jump again. They move to an even tinier 1.4-nanometer build.

What To Watch

Bloomberg says the timing could still move. The whole 2027 plan leans on one thing.

Apple's AI has to catch up to the hardware built for it.
