How eBay Live Shopping Delivered a Blockbuster Quarter

Summary:
  • eBay reported record quarterly results and credited eBay Live for higher viewership, watch time and items sold.
  • Live sign-ups are now open in more than 300 categories across seven markets, up from a 2022 invitation-only pilot.
  • First-time collectibles buyers on Live spend about 70% more than first-time buyers elsewhere on the marketplace.

A Record Quarter, Powered by Livestreams

On August 6, 2026, eBay told investors that its live shopping bet is paying off. The company reported record results in its latest quarter, and it pointed to eBay Live as a big reason.

More viewers, more watch time, and more items sold all went in the same direction.

eBay did not give a specific dollar figure, so the exact scale is unclear. The seller numbers help fill in the picture.

Live also fits naturally into eBay's existing marketplace, which has long been a home for trading cards, sneakers, and vintage finds. Broadcasting lets sellers show items in detail and manage bidding as it happens, turning a static listing into a more interactive experience. With sign-ups now open to more than 300 categories and Live available in seven markets, the feature has moved from a small experiment to a central part of the platform.

That puts eBay in a direct fight with Whatnot and TikTok Shop, two names already making noise in live shopping. It is a crowded field, and eBay is trying to use its size and history in collectibles to stand out.

From Invite-Only to Open for Business

eBay Live started in 2022 as an invitation-only feature in the U.S. It reached a beta test in the U.K. in 2024, then expanded to Germany, Australia, France, Italy, and Canada.

The homepage and mobile app also changed to make live events easier to spot.

CEO Jamie Iannone said eBay made it easier for sellers to set up events, get inventory ready, and manage items during streams. He also called out better "bidding responsiveness" as a key improvement.

Live Shopping Is No Longer Just a Niche

Live commerce in the U.S. is moving past the niche stage. StockX has launched its own live-shopping options. Whatnot is valued at over $11 billion. TikTok Shop is reported to be testing a paid subscription with free delivery and member-only discounts.

eBay's version of live shopping has a natural edge in collectibles. Among collectibles shoppers, first-time buyers on Live spend about 70% more than first-time buyers who shop outside Live. For a marketplace built on trading cards, sneakers, and vintage finds, that kind of buyer behavior matters.

What This Means for Your Money

The live shopping race is not just about entertainment. It is a fight for your attention and your wallet.

Iannone said, "These results reinforce our confidence that Live can deepen engagement, broaden discovery, and increase velocity across the broader eBay marketplace." In plain terms, he's saying more people are finding things they did not know they wanted, and that helps sellers, buyers, and eBay.

For investors, the important thing is not the hype around a single livestream. It is whether live shopping can keep pulling in new buyers, especially in categories where a live look beats a photo.
