Super Micro Shares Jump 15% After Lifting Profit Forecast and Revealing $60 Billion in Orders

Summary:
  • Super Micro Computer's stock surged 15% after the company reported profit margins higher than previously predicted and disclosed $60 billion in new orders.
  • CEO Charles Liang wrote on X about co-building a data center for SpaceX and xAI.
  • Rival stocks Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise rose on the news.

The Headlines That Moved the Stock

Super Micro Computer just gave investors a reason to smile. The company's stock jumped 15% after it announced that its profit margins are shaping up to be higher than expected.

This represents an improvement from the 8.2% to 8.4% range it had previously provided to Wall Street in May. The company said the improvement came "primarily due to a favorable customer and product mix."

Revenue expectations were revised. The company now forecasts revenue at the lower boundary of its $11.0 billion to $12.5 billion guidance for the quarter ending in June. LSEG analyst estimates had pegged revenue at $11.67 billion.

Why Everyone Is Watching Super Micro

These orders reflect soaring demand for servers packed with Nvidia's AI-accelerating GPUs - a trend that has been boosting not only Super Micro but also competitors Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Super Micro builds servers stuffed with Nvidia's GPUs - the chips that power AI systems.

Charles Liang, the chief executive, took to X to say he was "proud to co-build another new Gigawatt AI datacenter for @SpaceX and @XAI within a year." That mention of Elon Musk's companies - space venture SpaceX and AI firm xAI - tells you who is behind at least some of those massive orders. SpaceX, which is owned by Musk, purchased his artificial intelligence startup xAI in a February all-stock deal, and the combined entity now operates under the name SpaceXAI.

The ripple effect was immediate. Shares of Dell rose 5% in extended trading Tuesday evening, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise added 4%.

What It Means for Your Portfolio

The jump in Super Micro's stock is a reminder that the AI hardware boom continues. The details matter more than the headline.

The margin improvement is the most telling number. Super Micro reported that its order backlog reached an all-time high at the close of its 2026 fiscal year on June 30. "These new orders are expected to be delivered over future quarters," the company said.

The company plans to host an earnings conference call on August 11. That call could reveal more details about the backlog and margins.

For investors, the takeaway is straightforward. When a company like Super Micro can improve its margin forecast while sitting on a large order book, it points to a sector with strong demand.

The question is not whether demand exists - it clearly does. Super Micro's update shows the company is capturing it. And the fact that Dell and HPE also gained shows this is not just one company's story. The whole AI hardware ecosystem is getting a lift.
