What happened
Three leading U.S. AI model makers had service interruptions on Thursday that disrupted customers. OpenAI, Anthropic PBC and SpaceXAI each posted or were reported to have problems that affected users of their services.
How the companies responded
OpenAI said it was probing elevated error rates that were impacting its ChatGPT chatbot and its Codex AI coding tool. Downdetector logged that tens of thousands of users reported issues with OpenAI services during the outage.
Anthropic reported that multiple of its models had returned to service after encountering errors, but it added that it is still working to resolve interruptions affecting Opus 4.8 and Opus 5. SpaceXAI's status page indicated that Grok, the chatbot associated with Elon Musk, was experiencing outages.
