Who OpenAI just hired
Graham Seamans said he is moving to the organization that created ChatGPT to join the cyber team and lead sales for its cybersecurity effort. He took over sales at xAI in August 2025 and took part in a fresh campaign to pitch the Grok chatbot to Wall Street. Before xAI, his LinkedIn shows roughly eight years at MongoDB Inc.
A broader recruitment trend
Seamans is the latest sales exec OpenAI has picked up from SpaceX's AI units. Since September, the company also brought on Brian McCarthy and Ismail Elmas in Europe, both alumni of the code automation startup Cursor. In August, SpaceX bought Cursor for $60 billion. OpenAI has also brought aboard other people from SpaceX's AI compute team, notably Uday Ruddarraju and Brent Mayo.
Why the timing matters for the business
OpenAI is widening its commercial footprint by leaning into enterprise sales and testing new revenue lines such as advertising, all ahead of a potential public listing. The backdrop: After claiming the lab ditched its public mission by moving to a for-profit structure, Elon Musk was defeated in a court case against OpenAI, which he helped found. He launched a rival, xAI, and later merged it with SpaceX.

Investor takeaway
Bottom line for your portfolio: OpenAI is beefing up its go to market talent while pursuing bigger enterprise contracts and ad revenue. Hiring veterans tied to SpaceX's AI efforts signals a push to scale sales infrastructure, which could shape growth, profitability mix, and how investors handicap any eventual listing.
