Blue Origin plans major Florida upgrades to enable several launches a week

Published Oct 16, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • Blue Origin outlined big improvements at its Florida launch sites aimed at flying several times per week by decade end.
  • The roadmap calls for building two new pads dedicated to New Glenn, plus a $330 million expansion of Cape Canaveral Rocket Park due by summer 2027, increasing capacity to turn out up to 150 New Glenn upper stages each year.
  • The company says it has put more than $3 billion into Florida facilities that now cover 20 plus locations across Brevard and Orange counties, supporting over 5,000 employees.

Expansion plans and timeline

Blue Origin on Friday sketched out a buildout of its Florida footprint to raise launch cadence by the end of the decade. Central to that push are two additional pads dedicated to New Glenn, the company's heavy lift, with the vehicle designed for partial reuse.

Rocket Park in Cape Canaveral is slated for a $330 million buildout, with work expected to finish by summer 2027. Once running, the site is designed to turn out up to 150 New Glenn upper stages each year.

Ian Richardson, who oversees operations as a senior vice president at Blue Origin, wrote, "These investments are centered on one goal: building the capacity to support more missions, more reliably, and more efficiently," and added, "As we look ahead, this infrastructure is designed to support multiple flights per week by the end of the decade."

Operations and recovery

The company is restoring its pad after a May incident in which a New Glenn rocket exploded on the launchpad. The target is to have New Glenn flying again before 2026 closes.

As part of the broader upgrade effort, Blue Origin is partnering with the U.S. Space Force on a customer integration facility at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station to enable parallel preparation of multiple missions.

Richardson added that Blue Origin has put more than $3 billion into its Florida infrastructure. Its footprint covers more than 20 sites in Brevard and Orange counties and employs upward of 5,000 people.

Competitive landscape

Speaking last month, CEO Dave Limp described the firm's inaugural external fundraising as "oversubscribed," a remark that followed The Wall Street Journal reporting $10 billion raised at a $140 billion valuation.

The broader industry faces a squeeze on launch slots as SpaceX paused commercial rides on Falcon 9 to focus on Starship. Space Capital says that backdrop helped drive $92.5 billion of investment into the commercial space sector over the first three quarters of 2026.

Demand is rising as companies and governments push more satellites to orbit. Both Blue Origin and SpaceX run satellite internet services and launch for Amazon, which is building out its low Earth orbit constellation. SpaceX's Starlink still leads the pack, with more than 11,000 satellites currently in orbit.

What this means for your portfolio

In plain English: if Blue Origin hits its build targets and gets New Glenn flying by late 2026, more capacity could loosen today's tight launch market. That matters for satellite operators' timelines and costs, and for suppliers tied to rocket production.

The bottom line: watch execution on Florida buildouts, New Glenn's return to flight, and how quickly additional pads translate into higher cadence. In a market where launch slots are scarce, credible new capacity is a pricing and schedule lever across the space economy.

  • The same stock can score an A- for one goal and a D- for another, so picking your goal comes before picking any stock.

How to Tell an Asset From a Liability: The One Question to Ask Before You Buy Anything
  • The typical American household earned more in 2025 than in any year on record, yet only 30% of Americans say they could pay a surprise $1,000 bill from savings, so the problem isn't income but what the income gets spent on.
  • An asset puts money in your pocket and a liability takes money out, and the wealthy buy assets first, then let the assets pay for the fun stuff.
  • Before you buy anything, ask one question: does this put money in my pocket, or take money out of my pocket? Then you need a plan for the money you keep.
