The ask from City Hall's money manager
In a Wednesday letter to CEO Dario Amodei, Comptroller Mark Levine pressed Anthropic PBC to put its offering on hold and focus on what he called the unprecedented risks tied to artificial intelligence. Beyond broad principles, he wants a concrete governance structure that reflects concerns raised by Anthropic and by outside researchers.
What Levine wants in writing
Levine wrote: "Anthropic should disclose with specificity how it will implement appropriate audits and controls, the scope of what these controls are intended to address, as well as a projected timeline." He added: "This should also include an explanation of whether and how these controls will sufficiently address your call to slow the pace at which the capabilities of AI models advance."
The IPO runway and fresh numbers
People familiar with the situation say Anthropic could list as soon as next month, with proceeds that may match or top SpaceX's record-setting debut. Levine's office notes he oversees the city's fiscal health and oversees New York City's public retirement systems holding assets exceeding $325 billion. A representative for Anthropic didn't respond right away when asked for comment.
